Which Metrics to Monitor for Sales Growth

A Wish Is Not a Strategy

Let’s be honest: most entrepreneurs start with a dream. You want to do meaningful work. Make an impact. Make money. Let’s not pretend we don’t want that too. But dreams don’t build businesses—strategy does.

If you don’t know these four key numbers, you don’t have an actionable strategy. You have a wish. And wishes don’t close deals.So let’s break it down.

  1. How much do you want to earn?

    Start with the end in mind. Don’t just say “more.” More is not a number. Is it $5K a month? $10K? $100K this year? Write it down. This is your target. Without it, you’re throwing darts with a blindfold on.

  2. What’s your deadline?

    Goals without timelines are just daydreams. When do you want to hit your number? In 90 days? By the end of Q4? By your birthday? Whatever it is, circle that date on your calendar. A goal with a deadline creates urgency and action.

  3. Who are you selling to?

    This one trips people up all the time. “Everyone” is not a target market. You need to get specific. Who’s the person most likely to benefit from what you offer? What are they struggling with? Where do they hang out online? What keeps them up at night? Speak to that person.

  4. How many people do you need to talk to in order to close a sale?

    This is your conversion math—and it’s pure gold. Let’s say you close 1 out of every 5 sales calls. That means if you want to close 10 clients this month, you need 50 quality conversations. Now you’ve got a real number to work with, and you can reverse engineer your plan.

Why This Matters

Without these numbers, your marketing and sales efforts are just hopeful activity. You’re posting, emailing, pitching—but without a roadmap. And that’s how businesses burn out: not from a lack of passion, but from a lack of strategy.

Strategy = numbers + clarity + consistency

Get that formula right, and you stop winging it and start winning.
